Federal Tax Credits
The federal government offers up to $2000 in federal tax credits for residential customers.
State Tax Credits
Many states have created programs that reward homeowners who switch to solar power. Depending on the state in which you live, you may qualify for both state and local incentive programs. With California, New Jersey, New York, and Arizona leading the charge, other states are following suit. Visit the Database of State Incentives for Renewable Energy (DSIRE) to see what incentives your state is offering!
California Solar Initiative
On January 1, 2007, the State of California launched the California Solar Initiative (CSI) to promote the installation of new solar photovoltaic systems. The CPUC will provide $2.8 billion in customer incentives for solar projects on existing residential buildings, as well as all public buildings, industrial facilities, businesses, and agricultural facilities.
Incentives are based upon the size of the photovoltaic system installed with most homeowners being able to take advantage of an expected performance-based buydown (EPBB) via a one-time payment at the time of the installation.
